A recent study into the effects of acupuncture on the serum levels of NK (natural killer) cells in humans shows positive evidence in efficacy of Chinese medicine it's functional basis and acupoint mechanisms. NK cells being one of the body's defence mechanisms which seek out and destroy cancer and other invading organism cells.
The study titled "Acupuncture May Stimulate Anticancer Immunity via Activation of Natural Killer Cells. Evid Based Complement Alternat Med. 2011;2011:481625. Epub 2011 Mar 10" shows that after a course of treatment where appropriate acupoint stimulation has taken place the serum levels of NK cells even after extended period of time was elevated. This is thought to be due to the enhanced secretion of NK-cell activating cytokines.
Other beneficial results were also recorded in the areas of reduction of vomiting post chemotherapy administration as well as in reducing fatigue, hot flushes and other side effects.
This study shows remarkable scientific observations of clients after several treatments and should be a must reading from anyone dealing with this and other conditions.
