a type of green-blue algae that is incredibly rich in enzymes and dietary nutrients. Some say Spirulina is the first form of life to make use of sunlight on this planet, in the process converting incredible amounts of atmospheric co2 into life giving oxygen. First used as superfood by the Aztecs.
Spirulina algae grows wild in lakes and is related to blue-green algae. Spirulina in supplements is from a related genus Arthrospira platensis and Arthrospira maxima.
Spirulina is super rich in antioxidants. A potent source of beta-carotene providing 10 times more than found in carrots! Beta-Carotene yields the most vitamin A which is needed for night vision, growth, tissue healing, repair etc. It is also a very potent antioxidant that helps to protect cell membranes and tissue lining from irritating effects of free radicals (unstable molecules) by neutralising them. Epidemiological evidence is sufficient to suggest that foods rich in carotene or vitamin A are associated with a reduced risk of cancer (as noted by the National Academy of Sciences).
A bountiful B12 source, more than 2 times found in the liver. It is necessary for good digestion, nutrient absorption, protein synthesis and metabolism of carbohydrates. B12 contains an essential mineral called cobalt which is needed for healthy red blood cells and for protection against anaemia. It helps cell formation and assists with growth and longevity.
Rich in Chlorophyll which helps to purify the lungs, liver, stomach and colon. It also helps to clean cells and acts as a germicide in the mouth, throat. It is the body's closes relative to blood. Blood being based on iron and Chlorophyl being based on magnesium.
Best natural sources of iron. It is almost 20 times higher than that of common iron foods. Iron is essential for strong red blood cells and a healthy immune system.
Rich in enzyme upper-oxide dismutase. A potent antioxidant that helps to protect cellular integrity from free radical attacks and helps utilisation of zinc, copper and manganese.
High in an essential fatty acid GLA which has anti-inflammatory properties assisting in the prevention of heart disease and high blood pressure.
What is left to mention is that if you are suffering nutrient deficiencies then we have to ask our selves why. What is happening that I am not taking in or absorbing nutrients from food. In Chinese medicine, I go in and examine many symptoms, energetic relationships within your body, emotional effects on you and treat these. This is by definition Holistic Therapy. Shiatsu is an amazing therapy for delivering quality care.
