This article discusses the issues behind what is in the west called the chronic fatigue syndrome. Shiatsu's one aspect is that it brings you into a state of deep sense of stillness & calm. This is but one aspect of this therapy. Using finger pressure on acupoints (Tsubo's) and specific stretches, Shiatsu optimises the circulation of energy (Qi) or life forces throughout your body.
This treatment works by restoring balance in the energy flows (Qi) and relationships between your body's organs. Organs interact, affect and nourish each other in a cycle called "life". If this cycle is restricted or blocked, the result can have many and various impacts.
Lungs are thought to be the source of Qi which is the motive force within the body. It is the force that catalyses the burning of the foodstuffs and in combination with air to produce energy in the muscles. If you are constantly tired the organs of Lungs and Spleen thus need to be examined in terms of their energetic flows. Liver is the great director of Qi so it may be that a lot of energy is being burned in anger or other strong emotions. Shiatsu can be structured to unblock or move these energies. Kidneys are both the store of ancestral Qi, the energetic resources passed to you at conception from your father and mother and at birth from your mother. They also store energy from day to day foods that has not been put to use. Kidneys energetically control the adrenal glands. Ongoing stresses deplete these stores leaving you flat and depleted. Kidneys thus can and often do need attention.
Shiatsu helps restore the balance in these disrupted or depleted energy flows, resulting in greater inner harmony and energy. Organs work less because they are more efficient and have the needed resources.
Shiatsu treatments are performed on a comfortable low mat while you are fully clothed.
